It's the perfect day to introduce my brand new invention on this Multiples Day (5.15.2025) today:
High-capacity QR codes — made possible by global character sets, permutation, and optical character recognition (OCR). For starters, they will be super useful as a new form of portable storage. And that's just the beginning.
I am tentatively dubbing them Ugly Codes, because at a glance they look like gibberish and — perhaps more importantly — I am refraining from bringing yet another acronym into the world.
UPDATE: Thought of a new name for these Ugly Codes. From now on, I shall call them charcodes — char as in character — after barcodes and QR codes.
